2011-2017
Implemented in Rumphi district, the project, through participatory processes, selected and trained Community Animal Health Workers (CAHWs). CAHWs are community-based agents who are identified and trained to provide basic animal health services. They complement the work done by the government of Malawi's Department of Animal Health and Livestock Development officials by reducing the extension worker-to-farmer ratio. To effectively deliver animal health services, these agents are supported with resources such as protective equipment and start-up drugs. In the project, community-based extension agents were also responsible for treating over 9,000 animals.
